Weekly Finish #39-#40 and the End of a Decade

A year ago, just before Thanksgiving, my DGD#1 moved to California from Tennessee. I had not seen her in over three years so it was a joy to have her and DGD#2 (her sister) with us, especially since my youngest DGD#3 had moved out-of-state with her family.   But sadly, nothing lasts forever.  In June my middle DGD#2 moved out-of-state to be with her family, and now my oldest DGD#1 is moving back east, where she found a great job opportunity and living expenses are much more affordable.   She and her roommate/friend are driving there next month and will be getting their own place.  They are very excited to start their new adventure. Weekly Finish #38 Slash Your Stash Halloween Quilt

This is the second scrappy Halloween quilt I started in October 2015 with the intention of giving this one to DGD#3 for Halloween.  Life got in the way  and the project was put away along with the  other Halloween quilt for DGD#2 . Fast forward four years later to October 2019, and I decided it was time to finish this quilt too. I just love the backing - it's soo cute! Oooh, I hate spiders!  Doesn't that big black one look scary? Pumpkin goblins and candy corn - perfect for a Halloween quilt Spooky ghosts I quilted it with a loop-to-loop design, edge to edge, across each row of strips.  It was fast and easy and I think it's just right for this scrappy design.  The quilt measures 80" x 80" and is a larger throw-size.  I'm also thinking of the other quilt projects that have been sitting on the back burner, just waiting to be finished. I can feel the excitement build and that itch that needs to be scratched.  And now I have the time to quilt.  I miss my DGDs bu

And those Halloween quilts?  Well, they never got finished until this year.  As I sat at home on Halloween night, thinking of  my DGDs, and missing them, I decided it was time to finish those tops I've been posting about for such a long time!  They are now finished and ready for gift-giving. This quilt is for DGD#2 and I first posted about here in 2015.   It measures 53" x 62" and is a nice throw-size. (I even have enough leftover blocks to make a 2nd quilt for me!) I'm also thinking of the other quilt projects that have been sitting on the back burner, just waiting to be finished. I can feel the excitement build and that itch that needs to be scratched.  And now I have the time to quilt.  I miss my DGDs but have also missed my quilting and am so glad to get back to it! UPDATE : June 2020  ~ I wasn't sure when I'd see DGD#2 so I mailed it to her.  I wanted her to have it before Halloween 2020; a nd here she is with her Halloween quilt with lots of lov

I'm Back After a Four-Year Gap

I can't believe it's been four years since my last post! And yet it seems it was only yesterday. In 2015 my daughter and two teenage granddaughters came to live with me--and my quilting (and blogging) took a back seat.  In 2018 my DD and DGD#3 moved out-of-state, but DGD#2 stayed with me while she attended the local community college. Then, in late 2018, DGD#1 also came to stay with us.  I was thrilled to again have 2 of my 3 DGDs with me. But DGD#2 missed her mom and family; and when the semester ended in June, she moved to be with them. Although DGD#1 still lives here, she has moved to her own place.   As much as I miss them all very much, I find that I now have extra time on my hands for quilting and blogging. I also went from having no sewing/quilting room to having 2 vacant bedrooms.  I now had so much room that I didn't know what to do!  All my quilting stuff and stash had been put away for the past four years, and I was excited to finally have it al
