Quilty Finish #1-#2: Comfort Quilts for Kids

It's hard to believe that more than half the year has gone by.  Despite everything going on, time just zipped by, and before I knew it, July was upon us.  

I decided it was time to get back to my quilting, and here are my first two quilt finishes of 2020 - the start of a new decade of quilting.


Comfort Quilt for Kids #241

Started 2/1/20 - Finished 7/1/20

I posted about these kits from Quilts for Kids here.  And, after all these years, they are FINALLY completed and ready for shipping. Yea!  I have one more kit to do, so that's my next project, and I can't wait to get started on it.

Comfort Quilt for Kids #242

Size: 36" x 42"

Started 2/1/20 - Finished 7/1/20

Because these quilts will get a lot of use and washing, they need to be well-quilted. I quilted these on my regular short-arm sewing machine and decided to try my hand at free-motion quilting.  They are not perfect, but they are made with love.  That's two down and many more to go!  

Quilting makes me happy, and it keeps my anxiety down during these difficult times.  So until next time...

    Welcome to the Rainbow Scrap Challenge! The RSC Quilters are working their way through their Dark BLUE scraps (and projects) this month. Congrats on finishing these two kits for Quilts for Kids! Best of luck on the third kit waiting for completion and SEW glad to hear that your quilting is comforting you during these tough times.

These fold-and-turn coasters are SO easy and fun to make!  I first saw this pattern in 2002 at a guild meeting, and the instructions were handwritten.  There were no pictures … only hand drawings.  Well, we’ve come a long way in 8 years! I made this set of 4 coasters to include with the potholders I made for Amy’s Potholder Pass #2 . These coasters were made with five 5-inch cotton squares and one 5-inch flannel square.  These can also be made in other sizes as long as the squares are equal in size.  Suggested square sizes range from 4-1/2” to 6” … your choice.  You may also use one 5-inch batting square, but I found batting was a tad too thick.  But, again, your choice. Quilty Finish #13: Halloween No Point Stars Quilt

Halloween No Point Stars Quilt #253  Size: 50" x 56" Started 9/18/20 - Finished 10/15/20 I previously posted about my Halloween No Point Stars top, and I am happy to say that I finally finished the quilt ... just in time for Halloween! I used a polyester snow blanket remnant for the batting.  Yes, a snow blanket that is used for Christmas villages.  This was not originally intentional.  I didn't want to use Warm & Natural as I was not going to use this as a "blanket" but rather as a display/decoration.  I wanted a lightweight batting, so I looked through my bin of batting remnants and found what I thought was just right. As I was basting the quilt, I noticed some glitter - not much - just a tiny bit on the "batting".  It finally dawned on me why it felt a little different!  How did this snow blanket get mixed in with my regular batting remnants?  Anyway, I was already halfway done, so I decided to go with it.
