Grassy Greek Mystery Quilt #271  Size: 92" square Started 11/27/20 - Finished 11/26/21 It's been a while since I've posted a completed quilt, and I am happy to post this finish -- my Grassy Creek Mystery Quilt, which I started a year ago. I was rushing to finish it before Bonnie released the first clue of her new 2021 mystery quilt ... and today is that day.  Yea!  Finished just in time. The backing is a new sheet printed with green and gray leaves, which is perfect for this quilt.  I used a gray binding that I sewed on by machine.  I used Warm and Natural batting and quilted it with a simple scroll edge-to-edge pantograph. This is the last quilt that I quilted on my Mega Quilter machine and Inspira frame.   I've had this set up in my formal dining area for a few years, and as happy as I am to have it gone and to start quilting on my new Moxie, I'm also going to miss it as it has served me well for the past 16 years. But I am happy that it is goin...

  I've been busy making quilt tops and have no finished quilts to show you.  But I do have two completed flimsies to share. This pattern is Uncle Sam's Star from a 2000 American Patchwork magazine. This is one of my quilting goals for 2021 and thought I'd finish it for July 4, but that didn't happen.  I'm adding it to my UFO pile for now and probably won't finish it until next year. And I FINALLY finished my Grassy Creek Mystery quilt top.  Yea! I'd been putting it off because I was undecided about the border.  The thought of making all those string blocks wasn't very appealing so I thought I'd do a plain border just to get it done, but I didn't have anything in my stash that would work.  Then I realized I'd done all that work for the center and why should I go with a boring border.  So I bit the bullet and worked on those string blocks, 7 at a time for a couple of weeks; and I am so glad I did.  This one is also on my quilting goals list and...

  I finally finished the center panel of my Grassy Creek Mystery quilt.  Everything went smoothly until the end when I was finishing up the outer rows.  I kept sewing the units wrong and had to unsew the row 6-7 times.  Then I found a star block that I had to unsew and fix.  Ugh!  I put it away for a day and finally got it right so I was able to finally sew the inner border today.

This was on my design wall on Monday, after completing Clue 7 of the Grassy Creek Mystery, which also had the reveal.   As I worked on this mystery, I wondered if and how much I would like the design.  But any doubts disappeared once I put the units together to create the blocks.  I love these blocks and would have been happy with just the blocks alone.

Clue 4 of the Grassy Creek Mystery comes out on Friday.  Although I'm still working on Clue 3, I'll have the units finished up in time for Clue 4. I finished Clue 2 earlier this week and jumped on Clue 3 right away so I could catch up. And just for the record, here's my Clue 1, all done and sitting pretty. I know it's not a race and I'm not going to stress over whether I finish a clue before the next one comes out.  Last year, I didn't start the mystery until January and didn't finish the quilt until after the reveal.  But I'd like to keep up this time and it's not too difficult since the holidays will be rather quiet and low-key this year. I haven't started any new projects and am just finishing up a couple of UFOs, not including this Grassy Creek mystery and the Very Coriander Christmas BOM which won't be finished until next year.   I hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving Day.  Hubby and I spent a quiet day and did a Zoom dinner with my sister and nieces.  I must say I definitely miss our in-person get-togethers but Zoom is better than nothing.   I have not been together in-person with my sister since February when we celebrated her 90th birthday.  I have been to her home but can only visit her from the driveway.  She comes out to her balcony and we have a little chat with me underneath in the driveway.  She's Rapunzel to my Eugene LOL.  We're all very protective of her so I'm okay with that.  I am SO looking forward to 2021. My sister is an amazing person This will be my second Bonnie Hunter Quitville Mystery Quilt, and for once, I'm starting on day one. Last year's Frolic Mystery was my first ever and it took me out of my comfort zone.  I'm not a pink person but I think this color combination is stunning; a nd the blue matches the blue throughout my house....
