Weekly Finish #8: Catching Rainbows RSC 2022

Image
Catching Rainbows Finished Size: 83" x 94" I finished the top for this quilt last year and posted about it here .  The pattern is Catching Rainbows by Bonnie Hunter @ Quiltville.  I chose this pattern for the 2022 Rainbow Scrap Challenge by ScrapHappy . At first, I wasn't sure of the multi-color dots in the background fabric because it reminded me of measles😂.  But now that the quilt is finished, I think it's just right. I chose a simple quilting design by My Creative Stitches called Cactus-Flower-Clamshell. The quilt required 9-1/2 yards for the backing so I pieced it from material in my stash, and I used Warm & Natural batting, as usual. I love Bonnie Hunter's designs but they entail so many small pieces and are larger sizes.  This top took me about 5 months to complete, working on it in between other projects.  It was a lot of work and I love it so it's a keeper. I'm happy to join these linky parties.  Be sure to visit them to see what other quilt

Weekly Finish #7: Intrepid Wall Hanging

Image
Intrepid Wall Hanging Finished Size: 40" x 48" I made this wall hanging for darling husband from a kit I purchased last year at the International Quilt Festival.  We were together when we spotted the booth for The Quilters Clinic, and this is the kit he chose.  I'd wanted to make a geometric quilt for a long time and thought a small wall hanging would be a good first one. The pattern is designed to use strips.  And since I didn't have an equilateral triangle template, I found a way to use my 12-inch ruler as my guide.  There were tons of triangles to cut; and after cutting a few strips utilizing this method, I knew this was going to take me forever. So I turned to my Accuquilt GO cutter and discovered I had the perfect equilateral triangle die. Yippee!  But I was a bit miffed when I sewed the triangles together that the ruler-cut and die-cut triangles didn't perfectly match.  If you look closely at the first picture, you will notice some of the seams are a bit ja

Weekly Finish...Or Not: Shoo Fly & Vintage Inspired Churn Dash Tops

Image
This Shoo Fly top is a re-do of the very first quilt I made on my own way back in 1999. This is my darling granddaughter who decided the quilt was hers.  She was only 3 years old at the time.  The quilt is long gone as it was very much loved. This is the magazine pattern I used to make both quilts.  I wanted to use a similar floral print with white daisies and red background as my original but couldn't find anything I liked.  I'm happy with my re-creation and I think I'll give it to her for her birthday. I don't know what possessed me to recreate an old damaged quilt top I found in the wild.  Maybe I was influenced by other quilters who have been inspired by vintage quilts and have created beautiful quilts from them. This is the original top I found a few years ago, probably in the clearance bins at the thrift store.  I'm sure I only paid a couple of dollars because it was badly damaged.  There are burned edges are the big hole.  I knew if I didn't save it that
