Quilty Finish #17: Chihowie 2023 Mystery Quilt

Image
Chilhowie 2023 Mystery Quilt #331 Size:  77" square Started 12/5/22 - Finished 10/20/23 This is my fifth Bonnie Hunter mystery quilt, which I started in December 2022.  I actually kept up with the clues and finished the top in January.  I previously posted about my Chilhowie top here . Now that the new mystery is around the corner,  I thought it was time to finish my Chilhowie mystery quilt  I'm not very good at picking color combinations, especially when the design is a mystery, so I keep Bonnie's colors.  This color combination was way out of my comfort zone, but I love it. Most of the fabrics are from my stash, but I did have to buy additional fabric as these are not colors I normally use.  This quilt is a bit smaller than the previous mystery quilts, but it still has plenty of small pieces! I used an E2E Baptist Fan design for quilting and Warm & Natural for the batting. I found this funky abstract print and thought it was perfect for the backi...

Quilty Finish #11-#12: Dandy Star and Weed Whacker Green Quilts

Image
Dandy Star Stash Buster Quilt #325 Size:  62" x 70" Started 10/12/22 - Finished 8/31/23 Pattern is Dandy Star block for the Stash Buster Challenge 2021 by  Border Creek Station .   I finished this top last year and previously posted about it here .  At that time, I was unhappy with it and put it on the back burner, but a month later, I finished it with an inner border and an outer pieced border.  The borders make a big difference, and I like it much better. There are 42 blocks, and each block is 9" finished.  The inner border is 2", and the pieced border is 6". I used the "Damask" E2E quilt design. The backing is a pretty green leaf cotton-blend sheet, and the batting is Warm & Natural. Weed Whacker Quilt #326 Size: 64" x 84" Started 11/7/22 - Finished 9/2/23 This is another top that I finished last year and posted about it here .  Weed Whacker is a free pattern by Bonnie Hunter, and I have made several quilts with this pattern.  These ...

Quilty Finish #8: Catching Rainbows RSC 2022 Quilt

Image
Catching Rainbows RSC 2022 Quilt #322 Size: 83" x 94" Started 4/17/23 - Finished 5/13/23 I finished the top for this quilt last year and posted about it here .  The pattern is Catching Rainbows by Bonnie Hunter @ Quiltville.  I chose this pattern for the 2022 Rainbow Scrap Challenge by ScrapHappy . At first, I wasn't sure of the multi-color dots in the background fabric because it reminded me of measles😂.  But now that the quilt is finished, I think it's just right. I chose a simple quilting design by My Creative Stitches called Cactus-Flower-Clamshell. The quilt required 9-1/2 yards for the backing, so I pieced it from material in my stash, and I used Warm & Natural batting. I love Bonnie Hunter's designs, but they entail so many small pieces and are larger sizes.  This top took me about 5 months to complete, working on it in between other projects.  It was a lot of work, and I love it, so it's a keeper. I'm happy to join these linky parties.  Be su...

Weekly Finish...Or Not: Chilhowie Mystery and Rams NFL Team

Image
My first two finishes of 2023 even if they are only tops.  And so the fun begins! This top is Chilhowie, Bonnie Hunter's 2022 mystery quilt.   The colors orange, purple, and aqua are Bonnie's and out of my comfort zone.  But this was a mystery and I couldn't envision another color scheme so I stayed with these colors. I was unsure that I would like this colorway but now that the top is finished I love it! And I must say that with so many small pieces the pattern begins to get tiresome as I get closer to the finish.  So I am super happy this is finished for now.  I still need to get backing fabric and I plan to finish it before the next mystery. The second finished top is one I'm making for my daughter.  After I made the Raiders Quilt for my SIL, I offered to make a quilt of her favorite team for her birthday this month. I used the same pattern for both quilts.  It is the "1st and 10" web bonus free pattern from McCalls Quilting . This is a fast ...

Quilty Finish #29: Rhododendron Trail Mystery Quilt

Image
Rhododendron Trail #303 Finished Size: 85" x 99"   I thought it was time to finish my Rhododendron Trail mystery quilt now that the new one is around the corner. When the colors were revealed, I was not enchanted but I was determined to make the quilt.  I'm glad I did and now think it's beautiful. The entire quilt is made from scraps, some I've had for years.  I've learned so much from making Bonnie's quilts and have gained the confidence to take my quilting to the next level.  So many small pieces!   I quilted it with an E2E design named Flutterbys.  I've used this design before and it's one of my favorites.  The batting is Warm & Natural. I found this whimsical flamingo print and thought it was perfect for the backing.  I used this same print for the binding. Previous posts about my work in progress are  here . And a label completes the quilt! Rhododendron Trail is my fourth Bonnie Hunter quilt.  I started quilting in 1999 and...
