RSC 2021 Last Pink Saturday

Image
I finished these 5 pink blocks just in time for the last pink Saturday in January.  I received my order of Kona Sangria this morning and rushed to complete the last two blocks.

WIP Work In Progress: Scrappy Heart Lap Quilt

Image
I finally put together 20 of my extra heart blocks into this lap-size quilt top.  There is a lot of white in the background so I opted for a smaller 1-inch sashing with color cornerstones.   I couldn't decide whether or not to add borders.  What color inner border should I add?  What about the outer border? Then I thought about adding a pieced border.  Maybe pinwheels or 4-patch units?  I auditioned a few units with and without a white inner border, and nothing seemed to be right.  I finally decided to use the leftover 2.5" strips I used to make the blocks to create a scrappy border ... and voila!  Now onto quilting and binding.  Hopefully, I can finish before Valentine's Day.

RSC 2021 January is Pink

Image
This is my first year participating in the Rainbow Scrap Challenge (RSC) by soscrappy   Since the color for January is pink, I decided to make these pink heart blocks. These will be used in the mini quilts I am making for my granddaughters that I posted about here .   I was originally going to use 9 blocks to make wall hangings but decided to make mini quilts with only 4 blocks each.

Weekly Finish ... Or Not: Valentine's Heart Mini Quilts

I finally finished the flimsy tops for my granddaughters' heart wall hangings.  Now onto the quilting and binding so, although finished, the tops are still UFOs. As I worked on the sashings with 2-1/2" squares, I realized it was going to be faster and easier to make these with only the four blocks.  I want to be sure I finish these and get them in the mail well before Valentine's Day.

WIP Work In Progress: Valetine's Day Wall Hanging and UNITY

Image
Today is inauguration day!  Congratulations to new President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris! United we stand, divided we fall UNITY UNITY by Bonnie Hunter @ Quiltville.com As I watched today's inauguration events, I took to heart our President's message that "unity is the path forward".  "Unity" is the name of Bonnie Hunter's pattern that she released in April of last year as a mystery quilt-along.  I was still working on my Frolic Mystery quilt so I skipped it, but I knew one day I would want to make the quilt so I saved the pattern.  Well, today is that day.  This quilt is so apropos for today.

Weekly Finish...Or Not: Grassy Creek Mystery Update

Image
I finally finished the center panel of my Grassy Creek Mystery quilt.  Everything went smoothly until the end when I was finishing up the outer rows.  I kept sewing the units wrong and had to unsew the row 6-7 times.  Then I found a star block that I had to unsew and fix.  Ugh!  I put it away for a day and finally got it right so I was able to finally sew the inner border today.

WIP Work In Progress: Grassy Creek Mystery

This was on my design wall on Monday, after completing Clue 7 of the Grassy Creek Mystery, which also had the reveal.   As I worked on this mystery, I wondered if and how much I would like the design.  But any doubts disappeared once I put the units together to create the blocks.  I love these blocks and would have been happy with just the blocks alone.

Monday Making: 2021 Quilting Goals

Image
It's been a long time since I've made personal resolutions for a new year, simply because I would forget about them by the time February rolled around LOL!  But I would like to start this year with a list of quilty projects I resolve to do this year.  I think I'm more likely not to forget these! I apologize for the lengthy post as I do have an ambitious list!  So without further ado ...

Happy New Year 2021!
