Picket Star RSC 2022 Quilt #323  Size:  84" x 101" Started 4/17/22 - Finished 5/13/23 I finished the top for this quilt last year and posted about it here .  The pattern is Picket Star by Sew Preeti Quilts .  I have enjoyed reading her blog for a couple of years and love her patterns. Sew Preeti was so generous to provide a free tutorial to make this block that she used for the 2020 Rainbow Scrap Challenge.  She made 9 blocks for her RSC quilt, which finished at 53" square. She also made two beautiful, larger quilts with 20-30 blocks, and I decided to use the Picket Star block for my 2022 Rainbow Scrap Challenge. I made 30 blocks for my quilt over the course of 6 months, a different color for each month.  The block is 17", a nice, larger size that is fast and easy to complete. I used a simple quilting design that was pre-installed in the Pro-Stitcher Lite called Apple Leaves. I pieced the backing with a cotton-blend sheet and fabric from my stash.  I...

Catching Rainbows RSC 2022 Quilt #322 Size: 83" x 94" Started 4/17/23 - Finished 5/13/23 I finished the top for this quilt last year and posted about it here .  The pattern is Catching Rainbows by Bonnie Hunter @ Quiltville.  I chose this pattern for the 2022 Rainbow Scrap Challenge by ScrapHappy . At first, I wasn't sure of the multi-color dots in the background fabric because it reminded me of measles😂.  But now that the quilt is finished, I think it's just right. I chose a simple quilting design by My Creative Stitches called Cactus-Flower-Clamshell. The quilt required 9-1/2 yards for the backing, so I pieced it from material in my stash, and I used Warm & Natural batting. I love Bonnie Hunter's designs, but they entail so many small pieces and are larger sizes.  This top took me about 5 months to complete, working on it in between other projects.  It was a lot of work, and I love it, so it's a keeper. Red Cross RSC 2022 Quilt #319 Size: 63" x 77" Started 4/17/22 - Finished 3/31/23 I finished the quilt top last year and posted about it here . I made it as part of the Rainbow Scrap Challenge 2022 . I was inspired to use this Red Cross block and design when I saw this quilt by The Academic Quilter, who also provided a free block tutorial .  Each block measures 10" finished and was very easy to make.  There are 32 blocks, and they are set on point. I used an E2E design titled Milkyway Swirls by Quiltable.com The quilt is made entirely from my stash, including the border, and the backing is a cotton sheet.  And the label confirms the finish! I finally finished the 3rd quilt top for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge.  The block is the Picket Star pattern from Sew Preeti .   The block finishes at 17" and there are 30 blocks.  This top is BIG --  a queen size. I decided to finish it before the challenge ends in December and move on to other projects.  It's now in my UFO pile and won't get quilted until next year.   Last month's RSC color was orange; and after making the 6 Red Cross blocks, I had enough blocks (32) to assemble the center of the top. Setting triangles, a 1-1/2 inch inner border, and a 4-1/2 inch outer border complete the flimsy.  I think setting the blocks on-point adds a nice visual design.  Thank you to The Academic Quilter for the Red Cross block tutorial and quilt inspiration . I was also able to complete this top after making the 9 orange blocks.  This pattern is Catching Rainbows by Bonnie Hunter @ Quiltville. Bonnie made string blocks for her quilt, which I think looks great.  However, I wasn't eager to make these so I just used scrappy squares.  I love it! For now, they are in my pile of flimsies to be quilted.  I may or may not get to these 2 before the end of the year.  Hard to believe that the year is almost over and the holidays are just around the corner!   I am so excited to get my orange blocks done for the August Rainbow Scrap Challenge. I was so excited, in fact, that I couldn't wait to get started on my two quilt tops.  Of course, I forgot to take a picture of the 9 Jack Knife blocks before assembling the rows.  So I took a picture of one block to represent all 9.   I am doing the happy dance because I finished my purple blocks. I've already started working on my orange blocks for August and hope to finish them over the weekend.  Not only will I be caught up but I'll also be finished with the blocks for 2 of the 3 quilts.  Woo hoo!   I'll assemble the 2 tops next month and then add them to my UFO "to be quilted" pile where they'll sit until whenever ... ha! July was a busy month with holiday- and birthday celebrations, two weekends of the Southern California Quilter's Run (sew fun!), and a two-day longarm quilting class.  But I did find some time to finish the Sisterhood quilt for my sister which I posted about here . August is not as busy so I've had more time to sew and catch up on my projects.  I'm also working on a quilt for DS who is in the paramedic program at UCLA and will be graduating next month.  I'll do a WIP post soon. And, just when I thought I was catching up, I fell behind with my RSC blocks.  But I finally managed to get all my blue blocks done. I don't know what possessed me to work on 3 quilts for this challenge but it's been motivating. Totals so far are (54) Chasing Rainbows blocks; (14) Picket Stars blocks; and (23) Red Cross Blocks. The color for July is purple and for August it's orange.  And, once I finish the blocks for these two colors, I will be able to complete the tops for Chasing R...

  Finally finished my May green blocks for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge and it feels good to be catching up. 9 Jack Knife Blocks The pattern for the Jack Knife blocks is Catching Rainbows  by Bonnie Hunter @ Quiltville.  The background I'm using has all-over confetti dots and I'm now wondering if I should have used a plain background because they look as if they have chicken pox LOL!   This is a picture of Bonnie's sample quilt.  I see that her background fabrics are scrappy designs and look great, and I hope mine looks as good. 5 Red Cross Blocks Five more Red Cross blocks for a total of 16.  After blue, then I'll just need purple and orange to complete the top. This month's color is blue; and although I have all my blocks cut out, I don't think I'll have any blocks completed by tomorrow, the last day of June.   But I'm happy to know that July's color is purple! Yellow_Gold is the color for March for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge, and it looks like I'm a little behind.  Well, maybe more than a little but I'm diligently working at catching up.  5 Picket Star Blocks The Picket Star block is a free pattern by Sew Preeti Quilts and is available here . 9 Yellow Jack Knife Blocks  I'm also working on Bonnie Hunter's Catching Rainbows  pattern which is available for purchase.  So far I have a total of 27 Jack Knife blocks done --  9 blocks for each month. February - Aqua January - Red Next are pink for April and green for May.  And tomorrow we'll find out what color is new for June.
