Rolling Rainbow RSC 2021 Quilt #287 Size:  82" x 98" Started 1/25/21 - Finished 5/25/22 This is my Rolling Rainbow  quilt, which I started in January 2021 as part of the Rainbow Scrap Challenge.  I  finished the top in August 2021 and promptly added it to my "to be quilted" pile. Once I decided to gift it to my niece Lisa for her birthday this year, it was time to quilt and bind it. It is so colorful and cheerful that I can't help but be happy with it.  My quilt inspectors -- OJ and Pepper -- also give it their final seal of approval!   I quilted it on my Moxie with an E2E pantograph design of Baptist Fans, my first time using this design.  It's not perfect, but I really like the look. I used a queen-sized Warm & Natural batting. The backing is a fun print that is perfect for my niece.  And, of course, a label for the finale. Heavenly Bodies Comfort Quilt #267 Size: 50" x 62" Started 2/3/21 - Finished 8/8/21 My first charity quilt finish of 2021.  I posted about this quilt back in February, and I finally finished it. I love the main fabric with the planets and heavenly bodies. I found the perfect backing with the constellations. I did an overall quilting design called Picket, which I think looks like spacemen or aliens.  I guess it's a stretch of my imagination LOL.  What do you think? The pattern is Warm Wishes, and I used polyester batting.  I also attached the binding by machine, which I do for kids' quilts because they get a lot of use and are washed frequently. The quilt is larger than the baby quilts I usually donate.  I think this size is much better for an older child. I made these heart blocks way back in February using the Simple Hearts free pattern by Cluck Cluck Sew after seeing this quilt by Sharon Holland which she made last year when she hosted  a  heart quilt along  using this pattern. I fell in love with the fabric she used, which is the Foresta Fusion collection by Art Gallery Fabrics.   I wanted to make something similar using fabrics from my stash and ended up with these 16 heart blocks.  Once I made the blocks, I put them on the back burner to focus on our landscaping project -- and then completely forgot about them. Now, five months later, I remembered I had these blocks and wanted to finish the quilt - except I couldn't find them.  I looked here and there but could not remember where I put them, then voila!  There they were, sitting on my fabric shelf, nicely wrapped in the backing fabric.  Yea! Well, I'm on a roll now ... a Roll -ing Rainbow quilt that is!  I made six more blocks in blue which was the RSC color for the month of April.  This makes a total of 17 finished blocks with only 8 more to go.  Red is the color of the month for May but this quilt has no red.  So instead I'll my Stash Buster Challenge quilt by making some red blocks.   It's hard to believe that 2021 is more than half over and that it's been months since my last post.   I took some time off from quilting and blogging to work on a total makeover of our front and back yards.  And, now I'm trying to catch up on my 2021 quilting goals. So here we are in July and I finally finished my RSC21 blocks for March, which is green ... three more blocks for my Rolling Rainbow quilt.  These blocks finish at 16.5" so these were fast and easy.   February is yellow and I made these 3 blocks for my Rolling Rainbow quilt.  The other colors in the quilt are orange, green, blue, and purple.  So, I'm not sure when I'll finish this quilt because it all depends upon the monthly colors.  It's all a mystery! I finished these 5 pink blocks just in time for the last pink Saturday in January.  I received my order of Kona Sangria this morning and rushed to complete the last two blocks.

  This is my first year participating in the Rainbow Scrap Challenge (RSC) by soscrappy   Since the color for January is pink, I decided to make these pink heart blocks. These will be used in the mini quilts I am making for my granddaughters that I posted about here .   I was originally going to use 9 blocks to make wall hangings but decided to make mini quilts with only 4 blocks each.
