Quilty Finish #34: Old Time Christmas Quilt

Image
Old Time Christmas Quilt #308 Finished Size: 48" x 61" I finished the top in May and finally finished the quilt 3 weeks ago so it could be ready for Christmas.  It is from a block-of-the-month program from Shabby Fabrics that ran from October 2021 to March 2022.   I posted about my progress here and here .   I love, love, love this quilt.  The blocks are so beautiful and weren't as challenging to piece as they look.   But they were a little time-consuming so making just two every month worked great for me. I found the backing fabric from the same collection during a quilters' run in July on clearance at a 50% discount.  I should have done better with piecing the back but I'm okay with it. Here's a close-up of the backing.  I just love it! I'm happy to join these linky parties.  Be sure to visit them to see what other quilters are sharing. Quilty Finish #17: Charming Christmas Quilt

Charming Christmas Quilt #257  Size: 56" x 68" Started 10/27/20 - Finished 11/20/20 Yay! I finally finished my Charming Christmas Quilt, more than a week before December!  I can't believe I was able to finish this quilt in 3 weeks.  I posted about my work-in-progress here , here , and here . I am really glad I decided to do a pieced border.  It's much more interesting than a plain simple border. Many of these prints are from 1/2 yards and FQs I bought over the past couple of years, but about half of the fabrics are from a bag of scraps I bought at the thrift store last year.  The scrappy white background and inner border also include cotton sheet scraps. The original design uses 25 Jacob Ladder blocks, but I decided to make my quilt smaller with only 20 blocks. The pattern instructs you to make the blocks before deciding on a layout, but somehow I missed that part.  Instead of making the blocks individually, I laid out each 4-patch and HST unit in rows and ...

WIP Work In Progress: Charming Christmas Update

Image
I've made some progress on my Charming Christmas top since last week when I posted about it here . The pattern calls for 25 Jacobs Ladder blocks but I made my top smaller with only 20 blocks.   I am so glad I decided to go with a pieced outer border rather than a solid one.  I had some leftover HSTs and used these to make 3" hourglass units for the border. I still have to figure out the backing and then quilt it.  I hope to get it finished next week. My Floral Lucky Stars top is another work-in-progress which I posted about two months ago.  I'm finally quilting it this week and it should be a Friday Finish.  Can't wait! And, today I finished Give A Gift block 3 in A Very Coriander Christmas BOM subscription.  It feels good to be caught up. This is the first time I've participated in a block-of-the-month program. The blocks do look complicated but they're pretty big at 18" so the pieces are not difficult to work with. I am really enjoying the leisure ...

Quilty Finish #17: Northern Lights Christmas Quilt

Image
Northern Lights Christmas Quilt #217 Size: 47" x 60" Remember this quilt top that I blogged about here ? Well, I finally finished it, and I think I’m lovin’ it!  The pattern is Northern Lights, and it’s another nickel quilt from Pat Speth. I made this quilt from a stash of Christmas fabrics I’ve had for a few years.  I cut the fabrics into 5-inch squares, found a pattern I liked, and put it all together into a baggie as a kit. Last year, I pulled out the kit and put the blocks together, but I wasn’t thrilled with the color combo … the background just didn’t seem right, so I put it aside to work on other projects. Well, 2010 being the year to finish those UFOs, I tackled this project and finally finished it!  But, even when I completed the top, I still wasn’t thrilled with it … it just didn’t sing to me.  I struggled with the borders and finally decided, the heck with it, I’ll just make it borderless.  But now that it’s finished?  It sings loud and pro...
