Rhododendron Trail #303 Finished Size: 85" x 99"   I thought it was time to finish my Rhododendron Trail mystery quilt now that the new one is around the corner. When the colors were revealed, I was not enchanted but I was determined to make the quilt.  I'm glad I did and now think it's beautiful. The entire quilt is made from scraps, some I've had for years.  I've learned so much from making Bonnie's quilts and have gained the confidence to take my quilting to the next level.  So many small pieces!   I quilted it with an E2E design named Flutterbys.  I've used this design before and it's one of my favorites.  The batting is Warm & Natural. I found this whimsical flamingo print and thought it was perfect for the backing.  I used this same print for the binding. Previous posts about my work in progress are  here . My Rhododendron Trail Mystery quilt top by Bonnie Hunter is finally FINISHED! I am amazed that I actually finished the top so soon.  Of course, it'll be a few months before I quilt and bind it so for now it's in my pile of tops to be quilted.  That pile continues to grow and with a new quilting machine, I really have no excuse. LOL! I also finished this quilt top using the Silver Wolf panel plus four pillow panels. I bought the panels years ago at a quilt show with the intention of making my daughter a quilt for her birthday. This is the original quilt displayed outside the retailer's booth at the quilt show.  I fell in love with it and knew it'd be perfect for my daughter.  At the time it wasn't in my budget to buy the kit so I just purchased the panels. Last year, I decided to finally make this quilt for her birthday this year and had to search online for the companion fabric.  I was lucky to still find some of it but had to make do with a different fabric fo...

  I can't believe I've been keeping up with the clues for the Rhododendron Trail Mystery and have already completed the center. I love the narrow aqua sashing. It adds just the right pop of color. I plan to work on the borders next week and hopefully have the quilt completed in February.  This is my third Bonnie Hunter mystery and didn't finish either of the tops for the previous mysteries until August or September.  And, then I didn't complete either quilt until November so I'm amazed at the progress I've made on this one.   This year's mystery seemed to go faster than previous mysteries where we sewed units for weeks until the whole reveal.  But, with this mystery, we did some assembly which made it less overwhelming.  And, yet, I also found it a bit more challenging. I was a bit underwhelmed with the colors as they were similar to the Frolic mystery with the pink and aqua, but I'm happier with it now.  If you'd like to see more quilting g...

  Woo hoo!  I have kept up with Bonnie Hunter's mystery quilt and Clue 7 is all done.  The picture shows a few of the finished blocks but I am caught up with all the blocks.  Clue 8 comes out Friday.  Although I don't think it's the "big reveal", I'm excited to see what it is. In between clues, I'm working on my blue Weed Whacker top and making good progress. And, it's time to pick up where I left off on my Unity quilt.  Maybe I can get this top finished by February.  That would be nice!   Surprisingly, I am keeping up and making progress on Bonnie Hunter's mystery quilt.  Here are the first 10 of 31 blocks I need to complete before Clue 7 is released on Friday.  Don't look too closely as they are not perfect -- definitely handmade -- but finished is better than perfect, right? I'm happy with my blocks and I will be ready for the next clue.   The progress continues on Bonnie Hunter's mystery quilt .  Finally finished Clue 3 and am trying to keep up.   Clue 4 came out this past Friday and I'm slowly but surely working on these units in between other family activities.  The next clue comes out on Monday so we have a few extra days but I don't think I'll have these finished before then.  I'm okay if I fall behind as I can probably catch up in January.   It's that time of year when Bonnie Hunter @ Quiltville releases her annual mystery quilt clues.  This year's mystery quilt is Rhododendron Trail . I want to say this is my third Bonnie Hunter mystery quilt with Frolic being my first one from last year which was released in 2019. And this year I completed Grassy Creek, my second mystery quilt, which was released a year ago. But I'm also working on the Unity Quilt which was a bonus mystery that Bonnie released last year during the pandemic lockdown. But since Unity is no longer a mystery, I will say that Rhododendron Trail  is my third Bonnie Hunter mystery quilt.  I'm trying my best to keep up with the weekly clues and so far so good.  The first 2 clues are done and I'm working on the third clue which should be finished by Friday when the 4th clue is released.
