Weekly Finish #29: Rhododendron Trail Mystery Quilt
Rhododendron Trail
Finished Size: 85" x 99"
I thought it was time to finish my Rhododendron Trail mystery quilt now that the new one is around the corner.
When the colors were revealed, I was not enchanted but I was determined to make the quilt. I'm glad I did and now think it's beautiful.
The entire quilt is made from scraps, some I've had for years. I've learned so much from making Bonnie's quilts and have gained the confidence to take my quilting to the next level. So many small pieces!
I quilted it with an E2E design named Flutterbys. I've used this design before and it's one of my favorites. The batting is Warm & Natural.
I found this whimsical flamingo print and thought it was perfect for the backing. I used this same print for the binding.
Previous posts about my work in progress are here.
And a label completes the quilt!
Rhododendron Trail is my fourth Bonnie Hunter quilt. I started quilting in 1999 and 20 years later I finally decided to take the plunge. Never having done a Bonnie mystery quilt, her designs looked complicated and I was intimidated but I was also determined. And now I'm looking forward to her next one!
Here are my previous Bonnie Hunter quilts:

I also finished this quilt top a few weeks ago and posted about it here. This will be my fifth BH quilt when it's finished.😃

Your Rhodie Trail turned out gorgeous and that flamingo backing fabric is perfection! I am in awe of the amount of work that goes into each of these mystery quilts, and it is such a leap of faith to begin one without knowing where Bonnie will be taking you. Congratulations, Rita!
ReplyDeleteLoving your Rhododendron Trail quilt, super colours! And yes, the backing is delightful! Super impressed with all your earlier BH quilts too, such amazing piecing... they look so time consuming?
ReplyDeleteFabulous finish!!! I've made several BH patterns myself and I know how much work they are! Yours is absolutely beautiful, Rita!!! I should say, all of yours are beautiful!!!
ReplyDeleteSo lovely Rita! I think you did excellent on it. My 1st mystery was Roll Roll Cotton Boll. My favorite too.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful quilt! I'm not sure if the colors alone would have attracted me either but wow what a gorgeous finish. Thanks for sharing the older mysteries too. So pretty. Thanks for sharing on Wednesday Wait Loss.
ReplyDeleteThat is a BEAUTIFUL quilt - and the flamingos are just perfect!! what fun to see all of the quilts together!
