Weekly Finish #4: International Sisters Quilt #3

Image
International Sisters Quilt #3 Finished Size: 60" x 76" This is the third International Sisters Quilt I've made using the sister blocks from  Sew Preeti .  Last year, I gifted one to my sister and posted about it here .  When a very dear friend of my sister saw it, she fell in love with it and asked if I would make one for her.  I accepted because I could never say no to my sister who asked on her friend's behalf, and her friend agreed to reimburse the cost of materials. There is a very personal story behind this quilt, which was made to honor the recipient's brother who died in 1988, and I offered to add pictures of her brother and family.  I was happy to donate  my time and labor to make this special quilt. And, of course, RBG is in the center of all these beautiful ladies.  The RBG block was specifically requested for this quilt because Justice Ginsberg fought hard for women's rights and sexual justice. I used Kaffe Fassett prints for the dresses and added

Weekly Finish #3: Rams NFL Team Quilt

Image
Rams NFL Team Quilt   Finished Size: 74" x 98" I made this quilt for my daughter's January birthday.  She requested it after seeing the one I made for my son-in-law that I posted about here . The pattern is "1st and 10" from McCall's Quilting and is free.  Click  here  for a  pattern  to make this quilt.  It was so fast and easy to make! The quilting design is Touchdown, an E2E design from Urban Elementz.  The footballs, helmets, and stars are perfect. The backing is a mottled blue which nicely shows off the quilting design.  And a label completes the quilt! My daughter lives in Kentucky so I will have to ship it via UPS.  I wish I could hand deliver it but it's not in the stars for now. I'm happy to join these linky parties.  Be sure to visit them to see what other quilters are sharing. Weekly Finish #1 and #2: Stack 'n' Whack & Stand for Ukraine Wall Hanging

Image
My first two quilt finishes of 2023. Measures 62" square This first one - a Stack 'n' Whack wall hanging - has been a UFO since 2004 when I completed two similar wall hangings.  Apparently, I put the leftovers in a storage bag and put them on the back burner - way in the back LOL.  It was going on 20 years so I figured it was time to get 'er done! There were 2 completed blocks in the bag plus several loose "wedges".  I didn't make a third quilt back then because the "wedges" weren't accurate duplicates and I ran out of fabric.  I decided I would complete it anyway since I was keeping it.  I think it looks pretty good in spite of the mismatched blocks. I quilted it with an E2E quilting design by Creative Stitches called First Snowfall. I used red thread and love the results. This is a picture of one of the two quilts I made in 2004. I made this second wall hanging from the Quilters Stand for Ukraine pattern by Pat Sloan .  This is a single bl

Weekly Finish...Or Not: Stash Buster and Party Girls Tops

Image
2023 must be the year of completed quilt tops and unfinished quilts.   I made this first top for the 2023 Stash Buster Challenge by Border Creek Station using the Northwind Block. All fabrics are from my stash, and I used some really OLD and UGLY fabrics.  These were fat quarters I cut from yardage and I have no idea why I was hanging on to them. I love this block and am so glad I was able to use up this old stash. The pattern for this next top is called Party Girl, and I bought it along with the Party Girl yardage at a quilt show over 15 years ago.  I must have really liked it at the time and, although I think the Party Girls are pretty, the top just doesn't captivate me. But I am SO happy to get this old project moving along. I tried to replicate the quilt pictured on the pattern so  I purchased the floral sashing and striped border fabric, but the solid-colored sashing was from my stash. These finished tops are 6th and 7th for 2023 and will be added to my growing pile of tops t
