International Sisters Quilt #324 Size: 87" x 102" Started 6/28/22 - Finished 8/13/23 This was the first quilt top I started with Sew Preeti's International Sister Block, which I finished last year.   I previously posted about this quilt  here .  Then, I put it on the back burner to make one for my sister, which I posted about  here . Celebrating Sisterhood RBG Quilt #297 Then, earlier this year, my sister's friend commissioned me to make one, which I posted about here .  Do you see RBG among the sisters? International Sisters Quilt #318 I love making this block.  That's a good thing because my granddaughter recently asked for one after seeing her aunt's quilt. I made 54 blocks for this quilt, and each block finishes at 10". I quilted it with the Lace Leaf E2E design from My Creative Stitches and used Warm & Natural batting. I bought this wonderful backing from Joann.com named Hispanic Heritage Prints Latina Pride.  It was on clearance, and I r...

Weekly Finish...Or Not: International Sisters and Crescendo Runner UFOs

After putting this top aside so I could make a Sisterhood quilt for my sister , I finally made enough blocks to finish it. I started making this quilt in June and originally planned to make a lap sized quilt with only 32 blocks and no border, just binding. Once I assembled the top, I decided I wanted to make it bigger so I cut out more blocks.  Well, they were then sidelined until my sister's quilt was finished. An additional 22 blocks later, and my top is finished.  I added the blocks without considering size and didn't realize how big it would be.  It's one of my bigger tops measuring at 88" x 102". Between my sister's quilt and mine, I have made 84 sister blocks.  As much as I love making these ladies - they are so easy and fun to make - I'm done for now.  The top is now added to my "to be quilted" pile. This next unfinished project is a table runner from a kit I purchased from The Guilty Quilter .  This was a Halloween theme kit that was on...

Quilty Finish #23: Sisterhood RBG Quilt

Sisterhood RBG Quilt #297   I can't believe it's been more than a month since my last post.  Where did the month of July go?  Time flies when we're having fun!   And I certainly had a fun time making these beautiful sister blocks from Sew Preeti .   One day last month I was inspired to make this quilt for my sister, who turned 92 in February, as a belated birthday gift.  I'd already made a quilt for each of my two nieces, who also celebrated birthdays in February and  April.   RBG Block - not yet sewn My sister is an attorney and has been a civil rights activist all her life, especially during the 1960s and 1970s.  So when I saw this block by Rebecca Grace Quilting honoring RBG, I knew I had to add it to my sister's quilt. And on August 6, I visited my sister to gift her the quilt and to celebrate National Sister's Day.  She absolutely loved  her quilt, and we spent a wonderful day with my nieces and their quilts. Design Wall Monday: International Sister Block aka African Queen

Image
It was sometime last year that I stumbled upon Sew Pretti's International Sister Quilt  and immediately fell in love with it! Sew Preeti first came across the African Queen block in 2017 but couldn't find a pattern or tutorial so she drafted this one, which she named International Sister. I am thrilled and thankful that she so generously provided the  free instructions  for this cute block.   When I found Sew Preeti's quilt, I also stumbled upon these instructions which I believe were a document from The Quilting Board but are no longer available.  I found out the hard way they were not accurate so I made the corrections in red. I definitely wanted to make a quilt with this block and included it as one of my 2021 quilting goals.  These are the first 3 blocks I made as samples using both patterns.  The 10.5" block is made with Sew Preeti's instructions and the 10" block is made with the Quilting Board instructions which use a small...
