WIP Wednesday: Y2K and Unity Pinwheel Star Blocks

I see light at the end of the tunnel!  36 blocks completed and only 14 more to go.  Let's see how many I can finish by next WIP Wednesday.

The charms in the top 2 blocks came from Bonnie P. in Alabama: ...I have only been quilting about four years but I have been quilt crazy since I was a teenager...I have helped my mother cut about 30 quilt tops over the last few years.  I am presently making three Y2K quilts, one for each of my daughters.  A few of my goals are to make a beautiful Baltimore Album quilt, a Dear Jane quilt, and hand quilt a quilt I have completely designed myself...

The charms in the bottom 2 blocks came from Marge B. in Wisconsin: One of my favorite childhood memories is sitting around the kitchen table learning how to crochet and embroider from my grandmothers...you name it, I've done it...what I've enjoyed the most is my quilting.  My first quilt is a jewel tone geometric quilt which is still in my U.F.O. pile.  I will finish it some day.  Lately, I've been working on...a variety of other projects...All this is done between my family,...my job, and housekeeping...I hope you enjoy the charms I've sent.

I know I said I was going to put my Unity quilt aside to work on my Y2K quilt but I wanted to finish one more row of blocks.  The 32 pinwheel star blocks for the fourth row are now finished and it's a good place to pause my progress on this top.  I'll pick it up after my Y2k quilt is complete.


I am organizing and settling into my "new" quilting room.  This is the upstairs bonus room (a 2nd family room) which is larger than the small bedroom I was in.  DH used it as his TV room and office aka man-cave but he lovingly agreed to switch rooms.  So we spent the better part of last week moving furniture and actually getting rid of some of it.  It felt good to declutter.

DH spent the better part of this past Saturday setting up the new loft frame for my Moxie.  Unfortunately, there were some missing parts as well as the Velcro strips that are attached to the ratchet poles for the leaders.  Handi Quilter is sending the missing items and hopefully, I'll get them soon.  So I have to wait a little longer to try out my new machine.  Sigh.

    I'm anxious to see what you think about your Moxie! Look like a nice setup. Those charms are so pretty, and I enjoyed Bonnie's and Marge's stories. Love the pinwheels!

Tutorial: Fold and Turn Coasters

These fold-and-turn coasters are SO easy and fun to make!  I first saw this pattern in 2002 at a guild meeting, and the instructions were handwritten.  There were no pictures … only hand drawings.  Well, we’ve come a long way in 8 years! I made this set of 4 coasters to include with the potholders I made for Amy’s Potholder Pass #2 . These coasters were made with five 5-inch cotton squares and one 5-inch flannel square.  These can also be made in other sizes as long as the squares are equal in size.  Suggested square sizes range from 4-1/2” to 6” … your choice.  You may also use one 5-inch batting square, but I found batting was a tad too thick.  But, again, your choice. Instructions: (1) Y ou will choose three different fabrics.  Two fabrics will be used for the top of the coaster and one will be used for the bottom (backing).  I chose the light blue for the bottom: (2) Cut fabric to the desired square size.  I used 5” squares. Weekly Finish #13: Halloween No Point Stars 2020

  I previously posted about my Halloween No Point Stars top and I am happy to say that I finally finished the quilt ... just in time for Halloween! I used a polyester snow blanket remnant for the batting.  Yes, a snow blanket used for Christmas villages.  This was not originally intentional.  I didn't want to use Warm & Natural as I was not going to use this as a "blanket" but rather as a display/decoration.  I wanted a lightweight batting so I looked through my bin of batting remnants and found what I thought was just right. As I was basting the quilt, I noticed some glitter - not much - just a tiny bit on the "batting".  It finally dawned on me why it felt a little different!  How did this snow blanket get mixed in with my regular batting remnants?  Anyway, I was already halfway done so I decided to go with it. Weekly Finish #1: Free To Be Wild Horse Panel

  Free To Be Wild Finished Size: 67" x 72" I saw this quilt on social media a couple of years ago promoting Riley Blake's Back In The Saddle Collection.  I was immediately captivated and knew I wanted to make it for my daughter. Sadly, this was an older collection, and this particular panel with the black horse was nowhere to be found. However, I found this panel with the running wild horses from the same collection and knew my daughter would love it. In December, I decided to make this quilt for my daughter's birthday this month.  I searched social media for a pattern and found a tutorial for this quilt by Quiltscapes . Luckily, I found the pillow panels from the same collection for the quilt's four corners.  Sewing the top was fast and easy -- just add strips for borders and done. I quilted it with an E2E design from My Creative Stitches and used Warm & Natural for batting. My daughter's birthday is next week.  But she came for a quick visit this past we
