Weekly Finish #27: EMS Paramedic Quilt

EMS Paramedic Quilt

Finished Size:  77" x 89"

I've been thinking of making a quilt for DS#2 off and on for almost a year since he told me he was accepted into the UCLA Paramedic Program. He's been working as an EMT for the past few years and worked for the state and other health organizations during the 2020-21 Covid pandemic.  He loves his work and is thrilled to graduate in a few weeks.

When I saw these fabrics with EMS-related prints, I knew I had to make a quilt for his graduation.  I had no pattern or plan in mind but bought a couple yards of each print.

Last month I realized that September was just around the corner, and it was time to start work on this!  I previously wrote about my progress and finished top in this post.

A few months ago I ordered the center EMS panel from Etsy.

And I was pleasantly surprised to find they had added a gift:  the picture of the paramedics caring for a child.  I just had to include it in the quilt.

My backings are usually plain but I wanted to use up as much of the EMS fabric in this quilt as possible. I still have yardage left over and plan to make pillowcases to go with the quilt.

I made the 20 snowball blocks with a different layout in mind.  In the end, I used only 8 for the front.  But the remaining 12 were perfect to go around the printed picture in the back and it all worked out.

I used Warm & Natural batting and quilted it with an E2E design of stars and loops.

And, of course, binding and a label complete the quilt! Yea!

I'm happy to join these linky parties.  Be sure to visit them to see what other quilters are sharing.
Until next time ...
Be happy and keep on quilting!

  1. I worked as an EMT for 10 years, so this quilt really hit home. Excellent job taking very busy novelty print fabric and creating an attractive design. Just know DS#2 is going to love this.

  2. What a beautiful finish!!! He is going to LOVE this quilt!! and Congrats to him on graduating soon - super awesome... but please thank him for his work during the hard times!!!

  3. This is absolutely fabulous! What a great quilt you've made for him. Such an honor to have a Paramedic in your family. Thanks for sharing on Wednesday Wait Loss.

  4. How wonderful. And great use of extra fabric for the backing. Congratulation on your son's upcoming graduation.
