Sew and Tell Friday: Autumn Nickel Quilt Top

These are all square scraps that I’ve had around for years.  Individually, these squares are outdated and not very appealing.  But put them together in a scrappy quilt, and they all somehow work beautifully together!

Just finished this quilt top yesterday and it measures 57” square.  It’s another nickel quilt from Pat Speth’s “Nickel Quilts” book.  I just love this series of books!

This pattern is “Autumn Stretched Star”  and I used an alternate block arrangement.  The design is created with 5-inch squares from a fall-theme fabric and 2-1/2” squares in a cream color.  This was a really easy and fast pattern … great for a beginner!

I am linking up again to Amy's Sew and Tell Fridays … what sewing project have you been up to?

  1. Love, love your quilt. I just bought a 10" layer cake and *smack to head* forgot about nickel quilts. Great idea! Thanks!

  2. Pat's books are fantastic! You did a great job with your scraps. It is interesting how fabrics sometimes are just not appealing on their own, but fantastic together. Great job!

  14. This is so pretty. Living in Moçambique for almost a year, we missed "autumn". I didn't think I'd miss it, since I'm more of a spring and summer kind of gal; but when I saw the beautiful autumn photos and projects on different blogs, I really missed it. Your quilt is beautiful!
