Weekly Finish #19: Single Wedding Ring

I am so happy to finally finish this Single Wedding Ring (or Crown of Thorns if you prefer) quilt for my friend.  I'm really happy with it.


I really love these floral fabrics which I've had in my stash for years, and 


have been hoarding because they are so pretty to look at.


 This is the third quilt I've made with these fabrics and all have been gifted.  I've used up quite a bit of this floral stash but I still have enough to make a quilt for myself.  Another project for 2021. 😃


The backing is a very pretty floral design which is actually a sheet I bought last year and saved for just the right project.  I think it's perfect.



I quilted it with an E2E heart pantograph which I thought was appropriate for a wedding ring quilt.  And, I used lightweight polyester batting.

The quilt measures 64" x 78" and is large enough for my friend and her hubby to snuggle under while watching TV.  I can't wait to see her and gift it to her.

    Pretty! I've never used a sheet as a quilt back before. Any advice on that front? Does a certain thread count work better than others? I'm all ears! : )

    The floral fabrics in the quilt top are delightful and are complemented by the backing. It's a beautiful gift. I'm sure your friend will treasure it.

Tutorial: Fold and Turn Coasters

These fold-and-turn coasters are SO easy and fun to make!  I first saw this pattern in 2002 at a guild meeting, and the instructions were handwritten.  There were no pictures … only hand drawings.  Well, we’ve come a long way in 8 years! I made this set of 4 coasters to include with the potholders I made for Amy’s Potholder Pass #2 . These coasters were made with five 5-inch cotton squares and one 5-inch flannel square.  These can also be made in other sizes so long as the squares are equal-size.  Suggested square sizes range from 4-1/2” to 6” … your choice.  You may also use one 5-inch batting square, but I found batting was a tad too thick.  But, again, your choice. Instructions: (1) Y ou will choose three different fabrics.  Two fabrics will be used for the top of the coaster and one will be used for the bottom (backing).  I chose the light blue for the bottom: (2) Cut fabric to the desired square size.  I used 5” squares. Weekly Finish #13: Halloween No Point Stars 2020

  I previously posted about my Halloween No Point Stars top and I am happy to say that I finally finished the quilt ... just in time for Halloween! I used a polyester snow blanket remnant for the batting.  Yes, a snow blanket used for Christmas villages.  This was not originally intentional.  I didn't want to use Warm & Natural as I was not going to use this as a "blanket" but rather as a display/decoration.  I wanted a lightweight batting so I looked through my bin of batting remnants and found what I thought was just right. As I was basting the quilt, I noticed some glitter - not much - just a tiny bit on the "batting".  It finally dawned on me why it felt a little different!  How did this snow blanket get mixed in with my regular batting remnants?  Anyway, I was already halfway done so I decided to go with it. Weekly Finish #9: Picket Star RSC 2022

Picket Star RSC 2022   Finished Size:  84" x 101" I finished the top for this quilt last year and posted about it here .  The pattern is Picket Star by Sew Preeti Quilts .  I have enjoyed reading her blog for a couple of years and love her patterns. Sew Preeti was so generous to provide a free tutorial to make this block that she used for the 2020 Rainbow Scrap Challenge.  She made 9 blocks for her RSC quilt which finished at 53" square. She also made two beautiful larger quilts with 20-30 blocks, and I decided I would use the Picket Star block for my 2022 Rainbow Scrap Challenge. I made 30 blocks for my quilt over the course of 6 months, a different color for each month.  The block is 17", a nice larger size that is fast and easy to complete. I used a simple quilting design that was pre-installed in the Pro-Stitcher Lite called Apple Leaves.
