Weekly Finish …Or Not: Unity Quilt Top and Sunshine Panel

I have two finishes this week.  The first is my Unity quilt top. At long last, it is finally finished.  So happy!


I love this design, but all those small pieces...whew!  Thank goodness for my Accuquilt cutter.  This is made from my scrap stash.  Some of the scraps were leftovers from my Frolic quilt from 2020.

This is the pattern Bonnie Hunter @ Quiltville released for her quilt-along during the 2020 Covid-19 pandemic.  I didn't sew along when it came out but I did download the weekly instructions.  And last year I finally got around to starting it.  Can't wait to get it quilted and finished.



My second finish is this quilt top with the "You Are My Sunshine" panel.  I used the Message Board pattern by Quilt Chef.


This is the original pattern which is hard to find but there is an updated 2.0 version that has added borders and is the inspiration for my top.

This one is for my DGD Katie who lived with me for a few years and is my sunshine.  She also loves sunflowers so this is perfect for her.  She's coming for a visit next month and I am really excited to see her and give her the finished quilt.

    Great job finishing your Unity quilt top!!! I just made the center square and stopped there--mine became a small wall quilt. That was a big undertaking and yours is beautiful!!! It will be more than fun to see your granddaughter's reaction to her new sunshine quilt!!!

    Your Unity quilt is impressive, so many pieces! I love the Sunshine quilt, and that is a great pattern for featuring a panel. Enjoy your granddaughter!

Tutorial: Fold and Turn Coasters

These fold-and-turn coasters are SO easy and fun to make!  I first saw this pattern in 2002 at a guild meeting, and the instructions were handwritten.  There were no pictures … only hand drawings.  Well, we’ve come a long way in 8 years! I made this set of 4 coasters to include with the potholders I made for Amy’s Potholder Pass #2 . These coasters were made with five 5-inch cotton squares and one 5-inch flannel square.  These can also be made in other sizes so long as the squares are equal-size.  Suggested square sizes range from 4-1/2” to 6” … your choice.  You may also use one 5-inch batting square, but I found batting was a tad too thick.  But, again, your choice. Instructions: (1) Y ou will choose three different fabrics.  Two fabrics will be used for the top of the coaster and one will be used for the bottom (backing).  I chose the light blue for the bottom: (2) Cut fabric to the desired square size.  I used 5” squares. Weekly Finish #13: Halloween No Point Stars 2020

  I previously posted about my Halloween No Point Stars top and I am happy to say that I finally finished the quilt ... just in time for Halloween! I used a polyester snow blanket remnant for the batting.  Yes, a snow blanket used for Christmas villages.  This was not originally intentional.  I didn't want to use Warm & Natural as I was not going to use this as a "blanket" but rather as a display/decoration.  I wanted a lightweight batting so I looked through my bin of batting remnants and found what I thought was just right. As I was basting the quilt, I noticed some glitter - not much - just a tiny bit on the "batting".  It finally dawned on me why it felt a little different!  How did this snow blanket get mixed in with my regular batting remnants?  Anyway, I was already halfway done so I decided to go with it. Weekly Finish #9: Picket Star RSC 2022

Picket Star RSC 2022   Finished Size:  84" x 101" I finished the top for this quilt last year and posted about it here .  The pattern is Picket Star by Sew Preeti Quilts .  I have enjoyed reading her blog for a couple of years and love her patterns. Sew Preeti was so generous to provide a free tutorial to make this block that she used for the 2020 Rainbow Scrap Challenge.  She made 9 blocks for her RSC quilt which finished at 53" square. She also made two beautiful larger quilts with 20-30 blocks, and I decided I would use the Picket Star block for my 2022 Rainbow Scrap Challenge. I made 30 blocks for my quilt over the course of 6 months, a different color for each month.  The block is 17", a nice larger size that is fast and easy to complete. I used a simple quilting design that was pre-installed in the Pro-Stitcher Lite called Apple Leaves.
