Weekly Finish #15: Frolic Mystery Quilt 2020

I've worked on this Bonnie Hunter Frolic Mystery quilt since January and was really pushing to get it finished before Bonnie's 2020 mystery quilt was released.  I am so happy to report that Frolic is finally complete!

I believe this is Bonnie's 17th mystery quilt and her first one was in 2007. I always thought her mystery quilts were so beautiful but they looked complicated.  Plus the "mystery" aspect of the pattern was intimidating.  In addition to all that, the pattern is released during the busy holiday season, and I just didn't have the time to make one.
But last year, I decided to jump on the bandwagon.

I waited until January to start and was trying hard to catch up with the clues before the big reveal.  I was a couple clues behind when Bonnie revealed the final quilt and I fell in love.  I was so motivated that I quickly finished the center but put off doing the pieced border until August.  The border is a bit more work but I am so glad I took the time to make it.

I used strips from the backing fabric for the binding.  And, although I love sewing the binding by hand, I chose to sew this binding on by machine due to some hand-pain.  I used a clear mono-poly thread in the bobbin so it's almost invisible.

I love the print on the backing fabric with the beautiful peacocks, and the pink and blue colors are perfect.  The print is by artist Lisa Audit @ Wild Apple by David Textiles.

I used a Warm and Natural batting and quilted it with a simple scroll edge-to-edge pantograph, which I posted about here.

This quilt measures 82" square which is a nice coverlet size for a queen-size bed, as pictured above.  And, it's also a great size for a double bed.  I'll probably put it away for the holidays and bring it out for the spring season.  And, now I'm looking forward to Bonnie's next mystery!

Last week Bonnie Hunter introduced her new Grassy Creek Mystery, and the first clue will be released on Black Friday.  I'm so excited to get started!

    1. Yes, definitely lots of piecing. I don't mind since I can take my time. It took me 10 months to finish Frolic. I love looking at everyone's mystery quilts. Folks are so creative! Thanks for the visit and comment.

  6. I just finished my smaller version of Frolic. Also so I could maybe play along with this year's. Although I think I am just going to collect the clues and wait to see the reveal.

  7. This is just lovely!! I’ve always loved Bonnie’s mystery quilts even though I’ve never tried one. How wonderful that you made a thing of such beauty in a challenging year. Congrats on finishing in time to start her next quilt. Then you will have two seasons’ worth of quilts if you follow her fall color scheme for this year.
