WIP Wednesday: RSC 2022 August is Orange

Image
I am so excited to get my orange blocks done for the August Rainbow Scrap Challenge. I was so excited, in fact, that I couldn't wait to get started on my two quilt tops.  Of course, I forgot to take a picture of the 9 Jack Knife blocks before assembling the rows.  So I took a picture of one block to represent all 9. I hope to finish both tops by end of next week.  Well, I should be able to finish at least one, for sure.😃 Linking up to  ScrapHappy Saturday  @ soscrappy.  Please visit to see what other quilters are sharing. What I'm Working On...

Image
This is a top for a quilt I'm making for DS#2 as a gift for his graduation from the UCLA paramedic program next month. I bought the fabrics last year, and all the prints are related to emergency medical services. I searched the Internet and Pinterest for ideas and found this quilt as inspiration. I didn't have a pattern so I just winged it and came up with these 2 blocks. My floor became my design "wall" and I created blocks as I went along.  Sort of like putting a puzzle together. I'm very happy with the end result and am excited to get it finished. I'm happy to join these linky parties.  Be sure to visit them to see what other quilters are sharing. Weekly Finish #25: St. Patty's Irish Chain … and National Dog Day

Image
St. Patty's Irish Chain Finished Size: 58" x 78" I finished the quilt top a year ago and previously posted about it  here  and  here . This quilt is part of my seasonal quilts collection that includes my Valentine's  Chains of Love ,  my  Spring Pinwheel Sampler , and my  Uncle Sam's Star  quilt. I thought I'd have it completed by St. Patty's day this year but that didn't happen.  Anyhow, it's now done and ready for next year! I quilted it with an overall E2E design that is pre-installed in my Pro-Stitcher called Clovers. The backing is a green and white geometric print, and the batting is Warm & Natural. And because it is National Dog Day, I present Raider and Leo ... My DD and DGD were Raider's original owners.  When they moved to Kentucky, Raider remained with us. Leo "ran away" from his original home across the street.  When we contacted them to return him, they said they didn't want him because he didn't get along wit

WIP Wednesday: RSC 2022 July is Purple

Image
I am doing the happy dance because I finished my purple blocks. I've already started working on my orange blocks for August and hope to finish them over the weekend.  Not only will I be caught up but I'll also be finished with the blocks for 2 of the 3 quilts.  Woo hoo!   I'll assemble the 2 tops next month and then add them to my UFO "to be quilted" pile where they'll sit until whenever ... ha! Weekly Finish #24: Blue Weed Whacker

Image
Blue Weed Whacker Finished size:  76" x 93" I finally finished my Weed Whacker quilt from  Bonnie Hunter's free pattern . I started it way back in 2008 and in January I decided that, after 14 years, it was time to finish it.  I previously posted about my progress  here ,  here  and  here . I quilted it with an E2E design called Audree that is pre-installed in the HandiQuilter ProStitcher. The pieced backing is definitely not by design.  When I saw the fabric with the bird design, I knew I wanted to use it for the backing.  Unfortunately, I didn't buy enough and had no choice but to use a different fabric for the middle.   But, why did I end up with a pieced strip at the bottom?  Yup, my backing wasn't long enough which I realized when I got to the last quilting row.  Ugh!  The quilting design at the end does not match up perfectly but it's good enough.  Finished is better than perfect! I love this quilt and am adding it to my personal collection. If you'd

WIP Wednesday: RSC 2022 June is Blue

July was a busy month with holiday- and birthday celebrations, two weekends of the Southern California Quilter's Run (sew fun!), and a two-day longarm quilting class.  But I did find some time to finish the Sisterhood quilt for my sister which I posted about here . August is not as busy so I've had more time to sew and catch up on my projects.  I'm also working on a quilt for DS who is in the paramedic program at UCLA and will be graduating next month.  I'll do a WIP post soon. And, just when I thought I was catching up, I fell behind with my RSC blocks.  But I finally managed to get all my blue blocks done. I don't know what possessed me to work on 3 quilts for this challenge but it's been motivating. Totals so far are (54) Chasing Rainbows blocks; (14) Picket Stars blocks; and (23) Red Cross Blocks. The color for July is purple and for August it's orange.  And, once I finish the blocks for these two colors, I will be able to complete the tops for Chasing R

Weekly Finish #23: Sisterhood RBG Quilt

Image
Sisterhood RBG Quilt   I can't believe it's been more than a month since my last post.  Where did the month of July go?  Time flies when we're having fun!   And I certainly had a fun time making these beautiful sister blocks from Sew Preeti .   One day last month I was inspired to make this quilt for my sister, who turned 92 in February, as a belated birthday gift.  I'd already made a quilt for each of my two nieces, who also celebrated birthdays in February and  April.   RBG Block - not yet sewn My sister is an attorney and has been a civil rights activist all her life, especially during the 1960s and 1970s.  So when I saw this block by Rebecca Grace Quilting honoring RBG, I knew I had to add it to my sister's quilt. And on August 6, I visited my sister to gift her the quilt and to celebrate National Sister's Day.  She absolutely loved  her quilt, and we spent a wonderful day with my nieces and their quilts. My sister's quilt measures 55" x 73" a
