WIP Wednesday: Green Weed Whacker

Image
This green Weed Whacker top is the same Bonnie Hunter pattern as the blue one I completed in August.  I love this pattern and have made more than a couple of quilts with it. This was an old UFO from many years ago, and since the green strips were already pieced, all I had to add was the neutral square to each strip set.  The border pinwheels are pieced from the bonus HSTs.  So the top was super fast and easy, taking only a week to complete. I'll complete the quilt one of these days so for now it's still a UFO.😀 I'm happy to join these linky parties.  Be sure to visit them to see what other quilters are sharing.  Design Wall Monday  @ Small Quilts and Doll Quilts Midweek Makers  @ Quiltfabrication.com Until next time ...  Be happy and keep on quilting!

Weekly Finish #34: Old Time Christmas Quilt

Image
Old Time Christmas Quilt Finished Size: 48" x 61" I finished the top in May and finally finished the quilt 3 weeks ago so it could be ready for Christmas.  It is from a block-of-the-month program from Shabby Fabrics that ran from October 2021 to March 2022.   I posted about my progress here and here .   I love, love, love this quilt.  The blocks are so beautiful and weren't as challenging to piece as they look.   But they were a little time-consuming so making just two every month worked great for me. I found the backing fabric from the same collection during a quilters' run in July on clearance at a 50% discount.  I should have done better with piecing the back but I'm okay with it. Here's a close-up of the backing.  I just love it! I'm happy to join these linky parties.  Be sure to visit them to see what other quilters are sharing. Weekly Finish #33: Jericho Walls Stash Buster Quilt

Image
Scrappy Stash Buster Challenge Finished Size: 76" x 90" I made this quilt for the  2022 Stash Buster Challenge  by Border Creek Station using the Jericho Walls block and   posted  about the quilt top  back in May when I finished it. I used some really old and "ugly" fabrics from my stash and had a fun time putting the blocks together. There are 32 blocks, and each block measures 10" finished. The quilting design is Trailing Leaves, an E2E design from the Pro-Stitcher Lite Design Catalog, and the batting is Warm & Natural. I used some charm packs for the piano border and each strip measured 2½" x 5" unfinished.  The inner border and binding are the same red fabric. I used a new full-size sheet I bought at a thrift store.  I don't really like it but I didn't want to use any of my fabric stash to piece the backing and I certainly didn't want to buy any more fabric.   And a label completes the quilt. I am really happy with the results.

WIP Wednesday: Single Wedding Ring Quilt

Image
This is a wedding quilt I am making for my neighbor's daughter.  We have been neighbors for 26 years, and I saw Makenna grow up from a toddler to a beautiful young lady, who recently graduated with a doctorate in pharmacy. When we found out early this year that Makenna was getting married, my DH suggested a wedding quilt was in order, and I happily agreed.  Luckily, I had plenty of time as the bridal shower was not until January 2023. As the months went by, I looked for a pattern that was just right.  Being a young woman, Makenna might like a "modern" quilt, but I breathed a sigh of relief when she told me she liked an "old lady look".  I certainly knew what that was! I decided to go with one of my favorite blocks for wedding quilts: the Single Wedding Ring. I started cutting and sewing the blocks in October and made 32 blocks for an on-point setting.  Alice's Wedding Quilt   I used the same floral fabric I have in my stash and I also used it for my friend

Weekly Finish #32: Silver Wolf Panel Quilt

Image
Silver Wolf Panel Quilt Finished Size: 81" x 89" I finally finished this quilt for my daughter that I posted about here  when I finished the top in January. I didn't have a pattern but was inspired by a quilt I saw at a quilt show. I love how the pillow panels add to the overall quilt design. I used an E2E quilting design with pine trees and grass which I thought was perfect for the wolves in the forest print.  This was the first time using this design and I'm a little disappointed with it because you can see where the "grass" looks like a line of zigzags.  It kinda annoys me but overall it looks fine.  The backing is pieced with a leftover print from the top and a different print with more wolves.  And, I used Warm & Natural batting. And, of course, a quilt is not completely finished until the label is on. I am really happy with this quilt and can't wait to give it to my daughter for her birthday in January.  She lives in Kentucky so I'll have

Weekly Finish #30 and #31: Halloween Bats & Boos and Crescendo Runner

Image
I hope everyone had a fun and safe Halloween day.  We had a very quiet and uneventful day.   I was a little disappointed that we had very few trick-or-treaters this year.   I bought two large bags of candy but only used half a bag.  Now who's going to eat all that candy? 😃 I didn't even bother to bring out my decorations but I did put out all my Halloween and fall quilts, including  these two small Halloween projects I finished a couple weeks ago.  Halloween Bats & Boos Finished Size:  47" square Bats & Boos was a 2021 mystery quilt along from the Fat Quarter Shop.  I saved all the clues and finally got to it this year.  The clues are still available here .   I used an E2E spider web design and love the results. Halloween Crescendo Runner I finally finished the Halloween table runner that I wrote about here .  I quilted this on my longarm with an E2E design and it measures 20" x 80". I'm happy to join these linky parties.  Be sure to visit them to

WIP Wednesday: Whatnots Club Midnight Wall Hanging

Image
I made this small wall-hanging top from Kim Diehl's Tenth Simple Whatnots Club.  It only measures 21" square and I finished it in 2 days. I purchased the stand-alone kit last year from the Fat Quarter Shop ... and somehow I ended up signing up for the eleventh annual Simple Whatnots Club.  There are eight kits and I received my last one in August.  So far I have completed zero.  I'm not sure I'll ever finish all of them.  I may pull the fabric and add it to my stash for another project.  I may even gift a couple to my quilting friend.   The backing and binding were included in the kit so I'll be able to finish it quickly. I'm happy to join these linky parties.  Be sure to visit them to see what other quilters are sharing.  Design Wall Monday  @ Small Quilts and Doll Quilts Midweek Makers  @ Quiltfabrication.com Wednesday Wait Loss @ The Inquiring Quilter Until next time ...  Be happy and keep on quilting!
