Weekly Finish #11-#12: Green Quilts Dandy Star SBC 2021 and Weed Whacker

Image
Dandy Star Stash Buster Challenge 2021 Finished Size: 62" x 70" I finished this top last year and previously posted about it here .  At that time, I was unhappy with it and put it on the back burner, but a month later I finished it with an inner border and an outer pieced border.  The borders make a big difference, and I like it much better. There are 42 blocks, and each block is 9" finished.  The inner border is 2" and the pieced border is 6". I used the "Damask" E2E quilt design. The backing is a pretty green leaf cotton-blend sheet, and the batting is Warm & Natural. For now, it's in my personal collection but I may donate it if the need arises. Green Weed Whacker Finished Size:  64" x 84" This is another top that I finished last year and posted about it here .  Weed Whacker is a free pattern by Bonnie Hunter, and I have made several quilts with this pattern.  These green strips were originally sewn together years ago, and there ...

Weekly Finish #10: International Sisters Quilt

Image
International Sisters Quilt Finished Size: 87" x 102" This was the first quilt top I started with Sew Preeti's International Sister Block, which I finished last year.   I previously posted about this quilt  here .  Then, I put it on the back burner to make one for my sister, which I posted about  here . Then, earlier this year, my sister's friend commissioned me to make one, which I posted about here .  Do you see RBG among the sisters? I love making this block.  That's a good thing because my granddaughter recently asked for one after seeing her aunt's quilt. I made 54 blocks for this quilt, and each block finishes at 10". I quilted it with the Lace Leaf E2E design from My Creative Stitches and used Warm & Natural batting. I bought this wonderful backing from Joann.com named Hispanic Heritage Prints Latina Pride.  It was on clearance and I received an additional 15% discount for an 8-yard bolt.  It came out to a whopping $2.20 per yard....

Weekly Finish #9: Picket Star RSC 2022

Image
Picket Star RSC 2022   Finished Size:  84" x 101" I finished the top for this quilt last year and posted about it here .  The pattern is Picket Star by Sew Preeti Quilts .  I have enjoyed reading her blog for a couple of years and love her patterns. Sew Preeti was so generous to provide a free tutorial to make this block that she used for the 2020 Rainbow Scrap Challenge.  She made 9 blocks for her RSC quilt which finished at 53" square. She also made two beautiful larger quilts with 20-30 blocks, and I decided I would use the Picket Star block for my 2022 Rainbow Scrap Challenge. I made 30 blocks for my quilt over the course of 6 months, a different color for each month.  The block is 17", a nice larger size that is fast and easy to complete. I used a simple quilting design that was pre-installed in the Pro-Stitcher Lite called Apple Leaves. I made the backing with a sheet and fabric from my stash.  I've used bed sheets on a few of my quilts and hav...

Weekly Finish ... Or Not: Quilt Tops Aplenty

Image
Sometimes life gets busy, and I get distracted from blogging.  It's been a few months since my last post, but that doesn't mean I haven't been quilting. In January, I came up with an ambitious list of Quilting Goals for 2023.  I wasn't sure I'd be able to complete the 40 projects, but it wouldn't be for lack of trying.  So far, I've completed 19 quilt tops and finished 4 quilts.  Over half the year is gone, and just over half my list is done ... well, almost done.  In trying to stay on track, I've made plenty of tops but have yet to take the time to finish them into quilts.  But it's all good, and I'm enjoying my piecing and sewing time. Here are the 4 tops I made over the past couple of months.  Instead of "weekly finish", they should probably be called "monthly finish" LOL!
