I can't believe it's been four years since my last post! And yet it seems it was only yesterday. In 2015 my daughter and two teenage granddaughters came to live with me--and my quilting (and blogging) took a back seat.  In 2018 my DD and DGD#3 moved out-of-state, but DGD#2 stayed with me while she attended the local community college. Then, in late 2018, DGD#1 also came to stay with us.  I was thrilled to again have 2 of my 3 DGDs with me. But DGD#2 missed her mom and family; and when the semester ended in June, she moved to be with them. Although DGD#1 still lives here, she has moved to her own place.   As much as I miss them all very much, I find that I now have extra time on my hands for quilting and blogging. I also went from having no sewing/quilting room to having 2 vacant bedrooms.  I now had so much room that I didn't know what to do!  All my quilting stuff and stash had been put away for the past four years, and I was excited to f...

  Two more quilts were completed from this stack of flimsy tops , and are now ready for donation. Rail Fence Quilt #235 Basket Weave Quilt #236 The patterns for both quilts (and some of the other tops from the stack) are by Ursula Reikes.  I love her series of Quilts for Baby  books. This makes 9 quilts that I've finished from the stack, which means I have 2 more left to complete.  But I actually have 4 UFO tops because my DD added two tops she made.  With the holidays upon us, I think these will have to wait until next year. I previously posted about a stack of quilt tops that have been patiently waiting to be finished since 2009!  A few months ago, I started quilting the tops but didn't get around to binding them.  Last month, however, I finished four to give as gifts. These 3 tops were also quilted, and they, too, are now bound.  Three more quilts for the finish! It's A Snap Quilt #232 Warm Wishes Quilt #233 Blue and Yellow Lattice Quilt #234 I bought this top on eBay, so I don't know the name of the pattern. I still have four more flimsy tops to quilt and bind.  I hope I can finish them by the end of the year. Remember, the best things in life are quilted!

Slash Your Stash Halloween Quilt Here’s another Halloween quilt that’s been on my to-do list forever.  Several years ago, my BFF Brenda made one for her DGD and I fell in love with it.  I already had a stash of Halloween fabrics but had to buy the book so I could make my own. Patterns for Quick and Easy Quilts This was such an easy and fun quilt to put together.  It’s a log-cabin design that uses 3-1/2” inch strips.  I started cutting and piecing on Sunday.  By Sunday evening, I had finished sewing all 36 blocks.  After my 13-year-old DGD helped me arrange the blocks, she wanted to make sure it was big enough to cover her, so she laid down on the blocks.  It’s much bigger than I originally thought, and it’s perfect for her 5’6” height! By Tuesday, I finished sewing the rows, and tomorrow I hope to sew on the borders.  DGD hopes I can finish it by Halloween; but, if not, she says she’ll sleep with the top until I can get ‘er done....

Happy Halloween Scrappy Stars Finally getting my quilting mojo back and this scrappy Halloween quilt is officially my first quilt for 2015.  It’s a work in progress (WIP) but I have finished making the star blocks – all 40 of them!  Yup, that’s enough for two quilts.   The pattern for this is from American Patchwork & Quilting October 2014. I know, I know, Halloween is less than 2 weeks away so have to really scramble to get one finished in time.  Then I need to work on two quilts I want to make for Christmas gifts.  Yikes, time is flying by way too fast! Isaiah and His H-Block Quilt #229 Israel and His H-Block Quilt #230 Nathan and His Warm Wishes Quilt #231 After so many years away from quilting, I’m now on a roll with three more finishes!  That stack of unfinished tops came to the rescue one more time, in a big way. These three little guys are my BFF Vivian’s grandsons.  The two are fraternal twins, and the one is a year older, but all celebrate their birthdays in October.  Another last-minute invitation prompted me to grab 3 of the tops, which made it possible for me to finish the 3 quilts in time for their party earlier this afternoon. (Sorry for the poor picture quality. I took the quilt pictures with my phone in the store parking lot.  It was a windy day, and the only spot I could find with less wind was by the truck door near a tree.  I wish I'd remembered to take pictures while still at home.)
