Quiltpiecer

I have two finishes this week.  The first is my Unity quilt top. At long last, it is finally finished.  So happy! I love this design, but all those small pieces...whew!  Thank goodness for my Accuquilt cutter.  This is made from my scrap stash.  Some of the scraps were leftovers from my Frolic quilt from 2020. This is the pattern Bonnie Hunter @ Quiltville released for her quilt-along during the 2020 Covid-19 pandemic.  I didn't sew along when it came out but I did download the weekly instructions.  And last year I finally got around to starting it.  Can't wait to get it quilted and finished. My second finish is this quilt top with the "You Are My Sunshine" panel.  I used the Message Board pattern by Quilt Chef. This is the original pattern which is hard to find but there is an updated 2.0 version that has added borders and is the inspiration for my top. This one is for my DGD Katie who lived with me for a few years and is my sunshine....

  I finally took out my Unity top from the back burner where it's been for over 3 months and made some progress by adding the next round of flying geese.  I posted about my previous progress  here and here . Now I'm working on the next round of blocks that are made from a gadzillion HSTs - more than 270!  I am so glad for my GO! Big Electric Cutter.  It's not only a time saver but also a pain-free way of cutting.   Yea!  My Simple Hearts top using the Foresta Fusion fabric collection is now finished. I used the free pattern from Cluck Cluck Sew  and made the 6-inch hearts. My intention was to create a quilt like the one I saw for this Heart Quilt Sew Along . But it wasn't until after I made my 6-inch hearts that I realized the sew-along had its own set of instructions for the quilt and used 8-inch hearts.  And, as much as I love the top with the 6-inch hearts, I have my heart set (no pun intended😃) on the 8-inch blocks.  I'll be gifting the quilt with the 6-inch hearts to my DD and will make a second quilt with 8-inch hearts for myself.  And, yes, I did buy more Foresta Fusion fabric.  Yup, I sure did LOL! I also finished this St. Patrick's quilt top which is made from squares and rectangles.  It's a very fast and easy pattern.   I decided to make another Simple Hearts quilt this year for Valentine's Day and have made 3 of each one of the 6" blocks shown above.  I just need to add sashing to finish the top so hopefully, I can complete the quilt by Valentine's Day. This is the small quilt I made last year using this same pattern and posted about it here and here .  Simple Hearts is a free pattern from Cluck Cluck Sew and is a really fun block to make. This Simple Hearts quilt by Sharon Holland was my inspiration.  She used the Foresta Fusion collection by Art Gallery Fabrics and, well, yes, I had to make my own quilt using these same fabrics.  I love those colors! And, I finally started on the Old Time Christmas Patchwork BOM from Shabby Fabrics. This was a 6-month program that started in October and is no longer available.  Each kit contains fabric to complete 2 blocks and so far I have 8 blocks done.  Two more kits and I'll have the 12 blocks.  I'll just have to...

My Rhododendron Trail Mystery quilt top by Bonnie Hunter is finally FINISHED! I am amazed that I actually finished the top so soon.  Of course, it'll be a few months before I quilt and bind it so for now it's in my pile of tops to be quilted.  That pile continues to grow and with a new quilting machine, I really have no excuse. LOL! I also finished this quilt top using the Silver Wolf panel plus four pillow panels. I bought the panels years ago at a quilt show with the intention of making my daughter a quilt for her birthday. This is the original quilt displayed outside the retailer's booth at the quilt show.  I fell in love with it and knew it'd be perfect for my daughter.  At the time it wasn't in my budget to buy the kit so I just purchased the panels. Last year, I decided to finally make this quilt for her birthday this year and had to search online for the companion fabric.  I was lucky to still find some of it but had to make do with a different fabric fo...

Finally finished the Weed Whacker quilt top that I previously posted about here and here .     I am glad that I decided to add the pieced border.  It would have been much easier to just add a solid border but I think taking the extra time and effort to make the pieced border was well worth it. I probably won't get to quilting it until much later so for now it's going in the "to be quilted" pile. Next on my project list is adding the borders to and finishing up my Rhododendron Trail quilt top, and then picking up where I left off on my Unity quilt top.  Just sew busy! :) And, thank you for your wonderful comments.  You encourage and keep me motivated!   I can't believe I've been keeping up with the clues for the Rhododendron Trail Mystery and have already completed the center. I love the narrow aqua sashing. It adds just the right pop of color. I plan to work on the borders next week and hopefully have the quilt completed in February.  This is my third Bonnie Hunter mystery and didn't finish either of the tops for the previous mysteries until August or September.  And, then I didn't complete either quilt until November so I'm amazed at the progress I've made on this one.   This year's mystery seemed to go faster than previous mysteries where we sewed units for weeks until the whole reveal.  But, with this mystery, we did some assembly which made it less overwhelming.  And, yet, I also found it a bit more challenging. I was a bit underwhelmed with the colors as they were similar to the Frolic mystery with the pink and aqua, but I'm happier with it now.  If you'd like to see more quilting g...
