Quilty Finish #11-#12: Dandy Star and Weed Whacker Green Quilts

Image
Dandy Star Stash Buster Quilt #325 Size:  62" x 70" Started 10/12/22 - Finished 8/31/23 Pattern is Dandy Star block for the Stash Buster Challenge 2021 by  Border Creek Station .   I finished this top last year and previously posted about it here .  At that time, I was unhappy with it and put it on the back burner, but a month later, I finished it with an inner border and an outer pieced border.  The borders make a big difference, and I like it much better. There are 42 blocks, and each block is 9" finished.  The inner border is 2", and the pieced border is 6". I used the "Damask" E2E quilt design. The backing is a pretty green leaf cotton-blend sheet, and the batting is Warm & Natural. Weed Whacker Quilt #326 Size: 64" x 84" Started 11/7/22 - Finished 9/2/23 This is another top that I finished last year and posted about it here .  Weed Whacker is a free pattern by Bonnie Hunter, and I have made several quilts with this pattern.  These ...

Quilty Finish #10: International Sisters Quilt

Image
International Sisters Quilt #324 Size: 87" x 102" Started 6/28/22 - Finished 8/13/23 This was the first quilt top I started with Sew Preeti's International Sister Block, which I finished last year.   I previously posted about this quilt  here .  Then, I put it on the back burner to make one for my sister, which I posted about  here . Celebrating Sisterhood RBG Quilt #297 Then, earlier this year, my sister's friend commissioned me to make one, which I posted about here .  Do you see RBG among the sisters? International Sisters Quilt #318 I love making this block.  That's a good thing because my granddaughter recently asked for one after seeing her aunt's quilt. I made 54 blocks for this quilt, and each block finishes at 10". I quilted it with the Lace Leaf E2E design from My Creative Stitches and used Warm & Natural batting. I bought this wonderful backing from Joann.com named Hispanic Heritage Prints Latina Pride.  It was on clearance, and I r...

Quilty Finish #9: Picket Star RSC 2022 Quilt

Image
Picket Star RSC 2022 Quilt #323  Size:  84" x 101" Started 4/17/22 - Finished 5/13/23 I finished the top for this quilt last year and posted about it here .  The pattern is Picket Star by Sew Preeti Quilts .  I have enjoyed reading her blog for a couple of years and love her patterns. Sew Preeti was so generous to provide a free tutorial to make this block that she used for the 2020 Rainbow Scrap Challenge.  She made 9 blocks for her RSC quilt, which finished at 53" square. She also made two beautiful, larger quilts with 20-30 blocks, and I decided to use the Picket Star block for my 2022 Rainbow Scrap Challenge. I made 30 blocks for my quilt over the course of 6 months, a different color for each month.  The block is 17", a nice, larger size that is fast and easy to complete. I used a simple quilting design that was pre-installed in the Pro-Stitcher Lite called Apple Leaves. I pieced the backing with a cotton-blend sheet and fabric from my stash.  I...

Weekly Finish ... Or Not: Quilt Tops Aplenty

Image
Sometimes life gets busy, and I get distracted from blogging.  It's been a few months since my last post, but that doesn't mean I haven't been quilting. In January, I came up with an ambitious list of Quilting Goals for 2023.  I wasn't sure I'd be able to complete the 40 projects, but it wouldn't be for lack of trying.  So far, I've completed 19 quilt tops and finished 4 quilts.  Over half the year is gone, and just over half my list is done ... well, almost done.  In trying to stay on track, I've made plenty of tops but have yet to take the time to finish them into quilts.  But it's all good, and I'm enjoying my piecing and sewing time. Here are the 4 tops I made over the past couple of months.  Instead of "weekly finish", they should probably be called "monthly finish" LOL! Quilty Finish #8: Catching Rainbows RSC 2022 Quilt

Image
Catching Rainbows RSC 2022 Quilt #322 Size: 83" x 94" Started 4/17/23 - Finished 5/13/23 I finished the top for this quilt last year and posted about it here .  The pattern is Catching Rainbows by Bonnie Hunter @ Quiltville.  I chose this pattern for the 2022 Rainbow Scrap Challenge by ScrapHappy . At first, I wasn't sure of the multi-color dots in the background fabric because it reminded me of measles😂.  But now that the quilt is finished, I think it's just right. I chose a simple quilting design by My Creative Stitches called Cactus-Flower-Clamshell. The quilt required 9-1/2 yards for the backing, so I pieced it from material in my stash, and I used Warm & Natural batting. I love Bonnie Hunter's designs, but they entail so many small pieces and are larger sizes.  This top took me about 5 months to complete, working on it in between other projects.  It was a lot of work, and I love it, so it's a keeper. I'm happy to join these linky parties.  Be su...

Quilty Finish #7: Intrepid Wall Hanging Quilt

Image
Intrepid Wall Hanging Quilt #321 Size: 40" x 48" Started 1/2/23 - Finished 4/11/23 I made this wall hanging for my darling husband from a kit I purchased last year at the International Quilt Festival.  We were together when we spotted the booth for The Quilters Clinic, and this is the kit he chose.  I'd wanted to make a geometric quilt for a long time and thought a small wall hanging would be a good first one. The pattern is designed to use strips.  And since I didn't have an equilateral triangle template, I found a way to use my 12-inch ruler as my guide.  There were tons of triangles to cut.  After cutting a few strips utilizing this method, I knew this was going to take me forever. So I turned to my Accuquilt GO! cutter and discovered I had the perfect equilateral triangle die. Yippee!  But I was a bit miffed when I sewed the triangles together, that the ruler-cut and the die-cut triangles didn't perfectly match.  If you look closely at the first pi...
