Weekly Finish...Or Not: Rhododendron Trail Quilt Top Plus One More

Image
My Rhododendron Trail Mystery quilt top by Bonnie Hunter is finally FINISHED! I am amazed that I actually finished the top so soon.  Of course, it'll be a few months before I quilt and bind it so for now it's in my pile of tops to be quilted.  That pile continues to grow and with a new quilting machine, I really have no excuse. LOL! I also finished this quilt top using the Silver Wolf panel plus four pillow panels. I bought the panels years ago at a quilt show with the intention of making my daughter a quilt for her birthday. This is the original quilt displayed outside the retailer's booth at the quilt show.  I fell in love with it and knew it'd be perfect for my daughter.  At the time it wasn't in my budget to buy the kit so I just purchased the panels. Last year, I decided to finally make this quilt for her birthday this year and had to search online for the companion fabric.  I was lucky to still find some of it but had to make do with a different fabric fo...

Weekly Finish...Or Not: Weed Whacker in Blue Quilt Top

Image
Finally finished the Weed Whacker quilt top that I previously posted about here and here .     I am glad that I decided to add the pieced border.  It would have been much easier to just add a solid border but I think taking the extra time and effort to make the pieced border was well worth it. I probably won't get to quilting it until much later so for now it's going in the "to be quilted" pile. Next on my project list is adding the borders to and finishing up my Rhododendron Trail quilt top, and then picking up where I left off on my Unity quilt top.  Just sew busy! :) And, thank you for your wonderful comments.  You encourage and keep me motivated! WIP Wednesday: Rhododendron Trail Mystery Quilt Clue 8 and Reveal

Image
I can't believe I've been keeping up with the clues for the Rhododendron Trail Mystery and have already completed the center. I love the narrow aqua sashing. It adds just the right pop of color. I plan to work on the borders next week and hopefully have the quilt completed in February.  This is my third Bonnie Hunter mystery and didn't finish either of the tops for the previous mysteries until August or September.  And, then I didn't complete either quilt until November so I'm amazed at the progress I've made on this one.   This year's mystery seemed to go faster than previous mysteries where we sewed units for weeks until the whole reveal.  But, with this mystery, we did some assembly which made it less overwhelming.  And, yet, I also found it a bit more challenging. I was a bit underwhelmed with the colors as they were similar to the Frolic mystery with the pink and aqua, but I'm happier with it now.  If you'd like to see more quilting g...

Weekly Finish...Or Not: Weed Whacker in Blue

Image
I haven't decided if I'm finished with my blue Weed Whacker quilt top or not, and whether or not I'll add borders.   Quilt by Marti Rajotte I was inspired by this quilt I saw on Bonnie Hunter's FB group and loved the pinwheel rows.  The pinwheels are made from bonus HSTs leftover from the strip blocks. My original plan was to include the pinwheels as rows just like Marti's quilt.  However, my quilt top has 12 blocks and I thought adding the pinwheel rows would make the top look too long and narrow.  So I opted to use the pinwheels as a border and then be done with it.  But I like the dark blue pieced border in Marti's quilt and am thinking I may do the same for my top.  We'll see what happens :) If you'd like to see more quilting goodness and see what others are up to, please visit the following which I'm linking up to:  Finished Or Not Finished Friday  @ Alycia Quilts Friday Foto Fun  @ Powered by Quilting   Peacock Party ...

WIP Wednesday: Rhododendron Trail Mystery Quilt Clue 7

Image
Woo hoo!  I have kept up with Bonnie Hunter's mystery quilt and Clue 7 is all done.  The picture shows a few of the finished blocks but I am caught up with all the blocks.  Clue 8 comes out Friday.  Although I don't think it's the "big reveal", I'm excited to see what it is. In between clues, I'm working on my blue Weed Whacker top and making good progress. And, it's time to pick up where I left off on my Unity quilt.  Maybe I can get this top finished by February.  That would be nice! Design Wall Monday: Weed Whacker in Blue

Image
This is the start of my third quilt top using Bonnie Hunter's free Weed Whacker pattern.  I made the first two tops in green and pink way back in 2008.  And, I started the blue one at the same time by sewing pairs of 2" x 9-1/2" strips but never got further than that.  The pairs of blue strips have been sitting in a project box for almost 14 years.  I think it's time to get this UFO finished! I eventually sold the tops on Etsy.  T he same buyer purchased both tops then she quilted the tops and sent me a picture of the completed quilts.  She even added a label with both our names!  Quilters are the best! This blue Weed Whacker is #10 on my list of Quilting Goals, but I figured it'd be an easy and fast finish so I decided to tackle it right away.  I don't think I'll get the quilt finished this week, but I'm hoping it'll be next week's Friday Finish. WIP Wednesday: Rhododendron Trail Mystery Quilt

Image
Surprisingly, I am keeping up and making progress on Bonnie Hunter's mystery quilt.  Here are the first 10 of 31 blocks I need to complete before Clue 7 is released on Friday.  Don't look too closely as they are not perfect -- definitely handmade -- but finished is better than perfect, right? I'm happy with my blocks and I will be ready for the next clue.
